Presbyterian Church(USA) FAQs
Welcome!. We’re so glad you’re here! Whether you’re brand new to church or just new to this church, we know that visiting a new faith community can raise a lot of questions. Here’s a quick, friendly guide to help you get to know us a little better.

What is the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)?
The PC(USA) is a mainline Protestant denomination rooted in the Reformed tradition of the Christian faith. We have a long history, deep theological roots, and a big heart for serving others. You’ll find PC(USA) churches all across the country—and each one has its own unique personality.
What does “Presbyterian” mean, anyway?
Good question! “Presbyterian” comes from the Greek word presbyteros, meaning “elder.” It reflects the way our church is governed—by a group of elected elders who help lead and care for the congregation. So, leadership is shared, not top-down, and everyone’s voice matters.
What do Presbyterians believe?
Here are the big things that shape who we are:
-
God’s Grace is Central – We believe that we are saved by God’s grace alone—not by anything we do to earn it.
-
Jesus Christ is Lord – Jesus is the center of our faith, our model for living, and our hope.
-
The Bible is Our Guiding Story – We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and we study it thoughtfully and prayerfully.
-
Faith is a Journey – We don’t expect you to have all the answers. Questions, doubts, and curiosity are welcome here.
-
We’re Called to Act – Faith isn’t just something we believe; it’s something we live out in service, justice, and love.
What about the sacraments—baptism and communion?
We celebrate two sacraments:
-
Baptism is a sign of God’s love and welcome. Whether as infants or adults, baptism marks us as belonging to God’s family.
-
Communion (the Lord’s Supper) is a holy meal that nourishes our faith. All who trust in Jesus—even if your faith feels new or unsure—are welcome at the table.
Do I have to be a Presbyterian to attend?
Not at all. We welcome everyone—whether you’re coming from a different faith background, returning after time away, or just exploring what church is all about.
What makes this church different?
We believe in:
-
Shared leadership – Pastors don’t run the show alone. Our elders, deacons, and members all help lead and serve.
-
Thoughtful faith – We encourage exploring together. You won’t find rigid dogma here—we value questions and conversation.
-
Community engagement – We’re not just here for Sunday mornings. We’re active in caring for our community and world.
What if I have more questions?
We’d love to talk with you! No pressure, no pushiness—just a genuine welcome and a willingness to listen. Feel free to reach out, stop by, or join us for a service or small group.
There is a place for you.
Whether you’re searching, doubting, celebrating, or healing—there’s a place for you in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). We’re a community of real people trying to follow a real Jesus, in real life. And there’s room for you in that story.
