One Important Way We Care for One Another at First Presbyterian Church

When people visit a church for the first time, one of the most common questions—spoken or unspoken—is this:
“If I become part of this community, will anyone really notice me or care about what’s going on in my life?”

At First Presbyterian Church, caring for one another is not an afterthought—it’s a core part of who we are. One of the primary ways we live this out is through what we call our Flock System.

What Is the Flock System?

Think of a flock as a small circle of care within our larger church family. Every member and regular guest is connected to a Deacon whose role is simple but meaningful: to check in, listen, and help ensure no one feels overlooked or alone—especially during difficult seasons of life.

This doesn’t mean constant contact or pressure. It means that if something significant is happening—an illness, surgery, family crisis, or major transition—there is already someone paying attention and ready to help.

What Do Deacons Do?

Our Deacons work closely with Pastor John to stay aware of care needs within the congregation. When a need arises, they communicate with one another so care can be shared and coordinated.

That care often looks very practical:

  • Prayer, offered faithfully and intentionally

  • Care cards or notes, reminding people they are not alone

  • Meals, organized during especially demanding or exhausting seasons

It’s our way of putting into practice the biblical call to “carry each other’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2).

Why This Matters for Visitors

If you’re exploring our church, we want you to know this: You don’t have to earn care here. You don’t have to be a long-time member. You don’t have to go through hard things by yourself.

Our hope is that, over time, people experience First Presbyterian Church as a place where genuine relationships grow and where God’s love is expressed through real, human connection.

Staying Connected

As a new year begins, we periodically refresh our flocks to help build new connections and ensure no one slips through the cracks. If you ever have a need—or simply want to know more about how care works—you’re always welcome to reach out. Contact our church office, (479) 636-5542, or email our pastor at, pastor@fpcrogers.com

We believe churches are healthiest when care is shared, burdens are lightened, and people know they matter. If you’re looking for a church where community and compassion are lived out—not just talked about—we’d love for you to continue getting to know us.
